Weather, clothing, and other questions...

Hi everyone. We're in the final countdown to the big party! We've received a few questions regarding what to wear, what to gift, etc. I wanted to address these questions here.

The Property:
The woods we're marrying in, what we lovingly call "The Property," is the home of Larry Guess, as well as R.J. & Claudia Gonzalez-Guess. There is a lot of space here, but very little paving. So be prepared for dirt and gravel roads, soft ground, grass, etc. Most of the property is on a relatively steep hillside.

Weather
Weather in this area in late May is warm. The Almanac places the average temperature in the mid to high 70s F. With the way our weather has been going this year, I would not be surprised if it gets to the mid 80s F or warmer. With that in mind, this is a woodsy casual affair. Please don't fret about formal or fancy dress. Nathan and I will not be wearing tuxedos (I know, it's a travesty, but I wore enough cummerbunds in High School), so please wear comfortable shoes and clothes. To those ladies and gentleman who like wearing heels, I would advise against it this time around.

Allergies
If you are not familiar with the area, Grass Valley is a high pollen zone in the spring and it has been known to snow yellow pollen from the oaks on the property. We're thinking the pollen plight should have passed by the 24th, but if you are susceptible to pollen allergies, it mightn't hurt to come prepared.

Gifting
We had planned on this being a non-gifting wedding. This event is meant to be a celebration of not just our love, but of our great and extended family. Your presence at this celebration is the only gift we ask for. That being said, if you are someone who feels a burning need to give things, please feel free to donate to theJudith Guess Memorial Scholarship at Cal State Long Beach, or contribute to the Booze fund for our celebration.

What Else is there?

Since many of you are coming for the weekend, here are some other things to see and do in the area:

History and site seeing

Empire Mine State Park

Northstar Mine Powerhouse & Pelton Wheel Museum

Downtown Grass Valley

Downtown Nevada City

Nature Stuff

Malakoff Diggins: An historic mine turned state park.

Collins Lake: Umm...it's a lake.

Swimmin Hole?
If you're planning on sticking around on Sunday, May 25th, there may be a trip to the South Yuba River in order! There are several nice places to spend a warm sunny day at the river. Perhaps a trip to one of these places can wrap up our weekend festivies?

Covered Bridge on the South Yuba River

Old 49 crossing on the South Yuba River

Alright folks, I realize that's a lot of information. If you have any questions or comments, please don't hesitate to holla at us! We're super excited!!
